PROJECT: NEARLY FOREVE RHOME
A new-build house was commissioned in Chalfont St Giles, on the site of an earlier, much smaller cottage in a condition beyond repair. The brief for a neo-Georgian style home was developed into a rendered facade of classical proportions, but with stone surrounds cast in more contemporary profiles. Its 3x3 plan arrangement provides the most cost efficient volume to surface area, resulting in an economical build: There are four bedrooms, three bathrooms and three separate living spaces - including the one large open/broken plan room to the rear. The circulation and staircase are in the middle in order to minimise travel distances. A mixture of timber sash and aluminium casement windows bathe the traditional interior, intended to outlive passing trends, in light.
